Meth labs, rent rolls, risk management and the ever-topical QCAT. Name the property management topic – we covered it at the 2012 REIQ Property Management Conference last Friday. From the get-go, it was clear our attendees had a thirst for information. It’s possible I even heard the faint sound of a pin drop during Stacey Holt’s QCAT session. The same could be said of their reaction to the Queensland Police Service meth lab demonstration!
It’s obvious QCAT is making waves in this sector with the panel session fielding questions on this topic left, right and centre. Many thanks must go to Bill Lemass, QCAT member, for his bravery in joining our panel that day. Katie Knight, the REIQ and REIA Property Manager of the Year, shared a truly touching and honest account of her reaction to the 2011 Toowoomba “inland tsunami”. The lessons learnt from her experience were invaluable to every property manager in the room.
The last cab off the rank was of course Australia’s golden children, the adventurers James Castrission and Justin Jones. Having kayaked across the Tasman, they have only recently returned from their latest adventure – traversing from the Antarctic rim to the South Pole and back. They once again gave a performance that left a trail of teary-eyed and inspired delegates in their wake. I can’t say I have ever seen such a captivated audience.
I could go on all day about the program but I think there is no one better to summarise the day than one of our delegates;
“I had 37 Years in Westpac and have been 35 Years in Rotary. I have attended many conferences, seminars etc. I rate none higher than my experience last Friday: Thank you to all concerned”.
B. Davin | 2012 Property Management Conference
I’d like to thank all the delegates for once again making this event one of the most highly attended property management conferences in the country. And nothing indicates a successful event to me more than when we receive praise from our members.
With comments like that, we can’t wait to start planning the next one.
Amanda Haack, Events Manager, REIQ
