REIQ Chairman Rob Honeycombe has stepped down from his role as Board Chairman.
Mr Honeycombe announced his resignation at the March Board meeting, suggesting it was a good time to make way for new blood.
“The REIQ is in the process of developing a new three-year strategic plan that will propel this organisation forward into exciting new territory and with my term expiring in October I wanted to give someone else the opportunity to lead the organisation through this transition,” he said.
Mr Honeycombe was elected to the Board of Directors in 2010 and was appointed to the role of Board Chair in 2014.
“I’ve been privileged to lead the Board since the beginning of 2014 and am incredibly proud of what the organisation has achieved in that time,” he said.
“I’m even more excited about the future for both the REIQ and our profession. The REIQ now has a deep and meaningful engagement with our members – that ‘service above self’ mentality is really tangible, from the Board right through to our incredible team of staff. These are people who genuinely care about the profession and work hard to improve the career and business of every member.”
At the March meeting the Board appointed Peter Brewer as the new Chairman.
“I’ve got great confidence in passing the Chairman’s baton to Peter Brewer,” Mr Honeycombe said.
“Peter shares my view that the REIQ’s leader needs to be in every zone and every corner of our state every year, attending member events in all parts of the profession and ensuring the REIQ hears every member’s input. Like me, he’s passionate about our profession and wants to make a difference. He’ll work his backside off for all of us.”
REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella thanked Mr Honeycombe for his years of service to the REIQ.
“Rob has guided the REIQ through its most significant changes and his outstanding leadership has ensured the organisation has navigated the transition well.
“It has been an honour to work alongside Rob for almost a decade and I know he is leaving the REIQ in better shape than when he arrived.
“I want to thank him for his years of commitment, for his dedication to this organisation and for his unswerving support. His counsel has been invaluable to me in my role and he will be greatly missed,” she said.
She also joined Mr Honeycombe in congratulating Mr Brewer on his new role.
“Peter Brewer is well known throughout the real estate community and I’m sure he’ll put his own stamp on this role, bringing his trademark enthusiasm and fresh thinking to the Board,” she said.
Mr Brewer joined the REIQ in 1989 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2016.
“I’m looking forward to the next chapter of the REIQ and I want to thank my fellow Board Directors who have placed their faith in me to lead through this transition,” Mr Brewer said.
